La Bonne, meaning “nursemaid”, was built to sail in the Nursery Class which was suggested by Herbert Reiach (MINA), the founding editor of Yachting Monthly, in 1917. His aim was to create a class of small cruiser racers which would encourage young men to take up sailing again when the (1914 – 1918) war was over. La Bonne was T Harrison Butler’s 1917 design, Albert Strange also designed for this class. She was the only boat to be built to this design and therefore unique. She was launched in 1919 on the Solent. Please see 'about us' to see line drawings.

Please telephone 01548 844284 for further information or email info@traditional-sail.co.uk.

SHELDRAKE

1953 Morgan Giles Royal Dart One Design
LOA: 16’6”
Designer: Morgan Giles
Built on The Humber
Mahogany hull

Lying Salcombe £2,000 on completion

Sheldrake was built on the Humber to Morgan Giles’ design for the RDOD (Royal Dart One Design) and was originally raced as a Humber One Design. She appears have a stronger build quality than many of the RDOD’s built in Teignmouth and therefore she has not lost any of her classic shape. She was sailed single-handedly from the Humber to Dartmouth in the 70’s and was bought to race as a RDOD. She is undergoing complete restoration of hull and wooden spars at present.
